Guy and jeep tours in the Pyrenees:

I was a bit curious about Guy and how he got to do what he does, so I used the opportunity to chat with him after one dinner as we were sitting outside a mountain lodge by a wooden table drinking some red wine. Apparently he did many different things throughout his life like instructing bartending courses, specializing in whisky… competing in off-road races, working as horseback riding  instructor, working as a photographer and organizer of events. For him it was a question of finding a way to channel all his experience and talents into one thing and the result was Kokopeli Adventure where he feels he taps into all these different skills.

So how come jeep tours in the Pyrenees?

The next phase was to decide on a place – the answer presented itself while traveling quite extensively in the world. He came to the Pyrenees while on a motorcycle tour in Europe – for him it was love at first sight. Guy says that he was inspired and moved by many places in the world but no place gave him the same overpowering sensation as this mountain range – the combination of postcard beauty with savage ferocity, the sense of being thrown back in time while being in 21^st century Europe and the diversity of the scenery captured him totally.

His company – Kokopeli Adventure, specializes in organizing events and incentives for companies – mainly outdoors in Catalonia and the Pyrenees but also in Barcelona. Since he is also a photographer he also does photography workshops in nature or during folklore festivals. Although they specialize in companies they also do small groups and private family escapes.  I asked Guy what his most memorable experience from his work was and he said that it probably was “Queen of the desert” – a camel- trophy like event held each year in a different country.

Last summer it was in the Catalan Pyrenees with Kokopeli Adventure as the local organizer. The event consisted of 600 participants divided into 12 groups, 33 jeeps (quite a few did not survive the event…),  hiking , rafting rappelling and more, but what really made this event unforgettable is the fact that it is open only to women! Guy says he will never forget the sight of a convoy of 15 jeeps driven only by women going through some of the most demanding roads of jeep tours in the Pyrenees – I guess that most of the villagers who had this convoy pass through their narrow streets will agree…

Day tours in Barcelona - why not?!

Barcelona is magical, no doubt about it.  It has everything in it and it suits all kind of different things to offer. Last week I got to Barcelona for one day only. Actually, it was a bad connection flight and I got stuck in Barcelona. Feeling sorry for myself, I had two choices – I could sit at the airport or at the hotel that the air company arranged for me, and get all grumpy… or I could one of the day tours in Barcelona.

As you can understand, I’ve chosen the other option and went on a day tour in Barcelona without any expectations. At the end of the day, I felt so lucky for getting stuck in this amazing city that I forgot all about my lousy flight. You probably ask yourself what can a man do in day tours in Barcelona?  a lot.

Of course, I started at La Rambla. This is the main street in Barcelona and it is so nice. People are selling all kind of things in little shops on the Rambla – birds, flowers, handcraft…even more interesting are the street shows. I love street shows, I feel like they are much more authentic than any other show cause the performer get’s to see and feel his audience. I felt like in my day tour in Barcelona I saw more street shows than in the past ten years together.

I guess that’s the magic I was talking about. Anyway after few hours in la Rambla, I went to see La Sagrada Familia. For those of you that don’t know it, La Sagrada Familia is one of the most famous buildings of Gaudi and the last one he ever planned. Actually it wasn’t ready during his life time and they are still building it today. This amazing building is telling you without words all there is to know about Gaudi – the man and the legend.

It’s unique colors and shape are talking, like no other building does. After few more hours there and in the street’s around, I understood that day tours in Barcelona don’t last forever - I had to go back and catch a flight. Now I’m planning my next day tours in Barcelona or actually maybe my two week vacation there…
